Metro police said that a state trooper does not remember causing a wreck that killed a woman.

Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, off duty Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Edward Lattin was driving his pickup truck near Rainbow Boulevard and Hacienda Avenue when he apparently lost control of his car, Metro investigators said.

"The driver in a blue pickup truck was driving at a high-rate of speed and witnesses say in a reckless manner," said Metro officer Monty Hall.

Lattin drove up the sidewalk, hit a pole, then swerved back into the street, before rear-ending and running over the top of a Toyota, investigators said. The Toyota then fell into the pickup.

"The impact was at such a force that the passenger of the Toyota sustained resulted in her death," said Hall.

The Toyota's driver was taken to an area hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

Lattin suffered minor injuries in the wreck, but investigators said he may have suffered a medical seizure.

"He does have some type of diabetic condition, and it appears from the information that he was in some type of diabetic coma," Hall said. "He says he absolutely does not remember what happened during the accident ."

Lattin volunteered to take a blood test for alcohol to clear his name of being intoxicated, which Metro has taken to their lab for testing. Investigators also plan to review Lattin's medical history.

Police said he is not being charged with a crime at this time.
