LAS VEGAS -- The parents of a 4-year-old boy who died after being left in a car for 17 hours will not get four of their children back from protective custody. In a Wednesday morning hearing, court officials told Stan and Colleen Rimer they would have to return for a protective custody hearing on June 16. Officials did not disclose a reason for keeping the children from the Rimers.Jason Rimer was found dead in his parents' SUV Monday morning. In an interview with KWDN radio, Stan Rimer said his 19-year-old son was in charge of caring for Jason since he and his wife were ill.The family did not realize Jason was missing because Jason, who had learning disabilities, would crawl into small spaces and behind furniture to sleep, Rimer added.
He calls Jason's death an unfortunate accident.Four of the Rimer's other children were taken into protective custody pending conclusion of the investigation.Should the district attorney press charges in the death of Jason, Stan and Colleen Rimer will be back in court for that hearing on June 20.
