WASHINGTON -- Nevada Sen. Harry Reid on Wednesday issued the following statement regarding a AAA report showing the average price of gas moved above $4 per gallon in Nevada for the first time ever:“Seeing that sign at the gas station at more than $4 per gallon is something we never imagined, and it is deeply disturbing to all of us. I know these soaring gas prices are draining our wallets, and I want to assure my fellow Nevadans we are taking action right now in Congress to provide both short-term and long-term relief to this awful situation.“Together, the Climate Security Act and the Consumer-First Energy Act are intended to reduce the burden of rising energy prices on consumers and offer long-term solutions through investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency. We will demand accountability from Big Oil for these unprecedented prices and attack their root causes, and we can and will reduce our reliance on oil and fossil fuel.
“As we do that, our state will lead the world in ‘going green.’ Nevada’s wealth of clean wind, solar and geothermal resources can be developed into a world-leading green industry that creates good-paying jobs and strengthens our economy. We truly can save our planet and our bottom line, at the same time, with smart policy like the Climate Security Act and Consumer-First Energy Act.”
