LAS VEGAS -- A construction worker was crushed to death Saturday by a piece of equipment at the CityCenter project. The worker was oiling one of the cranes used at the site when it began to lift cargo into the air, investigators said. He was then caught in the track and crushed by the counterweight."He passed away at the scene due to traumatic injuries he suffered," Clark County firefighter Scott Allison said. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
Officials from the MGM Mirage -- the CityCenter project's owner -- issued a statement in response to the death:"The tragic death of a worker should serve as an important reminder to all construction workers for the need to carefully follow all safety rules and procedures."This is the sixth employee to die while working at the site.Construction on this multimillion-dollar project is scheduled to be completed in November 2009.
