A man is in critical condition at University Medical Center after being struck by a car early Friday morning.

Around 4 a.m., a 54-year-old man and his family were walking and attempted to cross the Strip between the Circus-Circus and Riviera casinos.

For some reason, the man stepped off the center median and was struck by a white Honda, police said.

He was thrown 25 to 30 feet before landing. He was taken to UMC, where he is still listed in critical condition.

While police are still investigating the incident, preliminary reports said it may be due to pedestrian error.
