Gas-Saving Tips You Can Use

AAA Gives Recommendations On Saving Gas Money

Gas prices are at another record high, and the end seems to be nowhere in sight.

According to AAA, the price of gas went up 2 cents on Friday.

It's now $3.67 a gallon.

The energy department expects prices to peak in June at $3.73 a gallon.

Oil went above $126 a barrel for the first time Friday.

Now, some people are doing whatever they can to save money.

Everyone has an opinion when filling up or out on the road.

You drive around looking for the lowest price on gasoline. You look up, $3.66, then down the street you see $3.71.

“Terrible” is the first word from Irv Wolff when he sees what's in front of him. So he slides his credit card into the pump and reluctantly fills his car up with gas.

"I shed a tear for every drop that goes in the car," Wolff said.

But instead of crying about it, many people have resorted to trying urban legends -- the tricks that may help save gas.

One person drives under 65 mph and does not take off suddenly.

Another fills up on gas early in the morning.

One man tries not to floor the peddle when taking off from a stop light.

"Well, in most cases, a lot of those people are right. They will save a few pennies,” said Michael Geeser of AAA.

He said driving 45 mph or slower helps. In the summer, filling up in the morning during the coolest time of the day is right. And he said turning your car off as you wait saves you money.

"Make sure your car is maintained. Make sure a certified technician has looked at the belts, fluids, hoses, tires -- properly inflated -- weight is removed inside your car," Geeser said.

AAA also recommends you turn your air conditioner off.
