LAS VEGAS -- Two people are dead after an apparent robbery in the north part of the valley.A man suspected of committing a home invasion and a female homeowner were shot and killed, according to Metro police. It happened Thursday night near West Ann Road and North Rainbow Boulevard.Police said the homeowners knew the man and that he was a day laborer they hired to do odd jobs.
But neighbors said something doesn't add up.“It appears the suspect was breaking into the house. He was interrupted by the homeowner. We believe, tentatively, he turned a weapon on the female homeowner,” said Metro police Lt. Lew Roberts.According to police, at about 9 p.m., a couple returned home and caught a man robbing their house.Police said the handyman shot the wife, killing her. Then her husband got into a scuffle with the man and ended up shooting and killing him, police said. One neighbor said she was suspicious because she never heard any shots.Other neighbors said the couple had a volatile relationship and that the wife threw the husband out of the house several times. But at this time, police are dismissing neighbors’ suspicions, saying there was evidence on the suspected man that proved he was trying to rob the home.Police said the husband was not in custody, and they don't consider him to be a suspect. They're not releasing the name of the suspect and wife until family members are notified and pending the autopsy report.Police said this is an ongoing investigation.Neighbors and witnesses are still being interviewed.
