An attorney for the state's first lady said she wants to continue fulfilling her duties, despite her pending divorce.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Dawn Gibbons' attorney said the first lady doesn't see why she should stop performing acts for the common good just because her husband wants to divorce her.

Dawn Gibbons has led the state's methamphetamine effort and pushed for programs to help autistic children.

Her attorney said she will continue in these duties unless she is ordered not to do so.

On Monday, the governor announced the proceedings will be closed door, which some are saying is an uncommon and controversial move.

The governor cited "incompatibility" as the reason for the divorce.
