Judge Says Redman To Go To Trial

Paramedic, RV Park Manager Testify In Court

A judge has decided there is enough evidence for William Redman, a man accused of stabbing his daughter to death, to go to trial.

There was gory testimony Monday in the preliminary hearing for the 54-year-old Las Vegas man who claimed he "saw God" before he did it.

The paramedic who first arrived at the scene at the RV park took the stand at the Regional Justice Center, along with the woman who manages the park.

The paramedic repeatedly testified about the "large amount of blood" near the 12-year-old, but what she talked about after that was even harder for some to hear.

The defendant sat calmly as the two witnesses took the stand, describing the scene on March 12.

The Roadrunner RV park manager was the first to see the victim, Gloria Redman, on the floor of the trailer after her mother discovered her husband and her little girl covered in stab wounds.

The paramedic said the defendant appeared "calm" that morning, even as he told her what happened.

“I specifically remember him saying, ‘I did it,’ and there was reference to him having to do it ... ‘This is God's way,”" said paramedic Debra Dailey.

The park manager said the mother was barely coherent when she appeared at the park's office.

That's when the manager drove to the Redman trailer to see for herself and said she saw the girl on the floor and her father next to the girl's lifeless body.

“(Gloria) she was half in the kitchen, half in the living room. He was sitting beside ... and there was blood everywhere,” manager Mary Schlenkrich said.

The paramedic said the father was concerned about moving her body.

Dailey said Redman said, "She has to be dead for three days before she's embalmed."

The attorneys disagreed on the "felony murder by child abuse" charge.

“When a child is stabbed in the neck or chest, the intent is most likely to cause death, not abuse,” said defense attorney Andrea Luem.

“They (the cuts) weren't just on the neck where the cut was ... That ultimately resulted in the child's death. They were in the back of the head and other parts of the body,” said prosecutor Stacy Kollins. ”If that's not child abuse, when someone's taking a knife and cutting a child -- I don’t know what is.”

The reason the defense is objecting to the charge is that in the felony murder by child abuse charge, the state doesn't have to prove premeditation.

Redman is scheduled to be arraigned on May 20.

At that time, he'll make his plea, and a judge will likely set a trial date.

While in the hospital recovering from what police called self-inflicted injuries, Redman was booked in absentia for the death of his daughter. His arrest report has been released to the media, but be aware it contains some graphic descriptions and may not be suitable for all readers.

Gloria's school has set up a memorial fund at Silver State Credit Union.
