LAS VEGAS -- He was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of killing a 62-year-old and leaving the man's body in his Escalade in a Southern Highlands neighborhood, but the suspect said police have the wrong man.

Kenneth Thomas is defending himself from behind bars, and he's making some serious accusations against police.

According to a police report, Thomas's girlfriend said he is the killer, but Thomas said it was a police setup.

“Them detectives are crooked cops. They came up here and beat me up. They came to CCDC and beat me up for some DNA,” Thomas said.

From behind bars and covering his face, 27-year-old Thomas said he was setup by police, from the interviews they conducted to the evidence they collected at the scene of the crime.

Thomas was charged Thursday with the killing of Heinz Wietfeldt.

He was found March 19 bound in the back of his own Escalade, beaten and shot to death.

“I don't know who the guy is. I've never seen him. I don’t know how tall he is. I don't know nothing about the guy. So how can I plan something if I don’t know nothing?” Thomas said.

But according to this police report, his girlfriend tells a different story.

In it, she said they wanted to rob the man and kill him because it's "better if he can't talk."

“I need to see the voluntary statement. I'm not believing no cops. They lie all the time. I'm not no pimp,” Thomas said.

In the report, the girlfriend admitted she was a prostitute and that Thomas was trying to pimp her out.

She said she met the victim on a chat line, and all this happened because Thomas and his friend wanted to rob him.

“All I'm doing is reading my Bible, and I've got Jesus on my side. And I know I'm innocent. I ain't never harmed anybody. I don’t have a lick of violence on my record,” Thomas said.

Police said they have nothing further to say other than what's in the police report.

They said the investigation is ongoing.

David Jones, 27, was also charged with murder, kidnapping and robbery.
