LAS VEGAS -- County aviation officials are asking for residents' opinions about a new construction project. The Clark County Department of Aviation may build a commercial heliport south of Sloan. The heliport would be built upon a 229-acre parcel located just east of Interstate 15, approximately 5.5 miles south of St. Rose Parkway. If constructed, it would offer commercial helicopter tour operators an alternative to their current operating bases at McCarran Airport. It would also provide noise relief to thousands of Valley residents who live and work beneath the flight paths currently used by up to 100 helicopters that travel between McCarran and the Grand Canyon each day.Residents and others interested in the proposed Southern Nevada Regional Heliport can review and comment upon the project’s draft assessment beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday. The public comment period will remain open for five weeks before concluding at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 9. To learn more information, you can read a copy of the draft heliport plan online.Once informed about the project, residents will be allowed to offer input at a forum on May 1 from 4 to 7 p.m.Hard copies can also be examined at more than 20 Southern Nevada libraries; McCarran International Airport’s fourth-floor planning office; Henderson Executive Airport; and the North Las Vegas Airport.
