Shooter's 1-Year-Old Child In Car At Time Of Homicide, Police Say

LAS VEGAS -- Metro police have made an arrest in the shooting death of a woman at an intersection.Calvin Kirklin, 20, was booked into Clark County Detention Center Monday morning after a tip from a Valley resident.Kirklin was one of four people in a Buick wanted in connection with the death of Blanca Gonzalez.Gonzalez, 39, was found in her car Saturday near Nellis and Charleston boulevards.
Gonzalez was stopped at a red light next to the car. Kirklin -- whose 1-year-old child was in the vehicle with him -- leaned over one of his friends to shoot Gonzalez, police said.Gonzalez was struck in the head and died later at the hospital, officials said.Two children -- ages 15 and 11 -- were in the car with Gonzalez at the time she was shot. Police said they are now with their father.Gonzalez's car rolled into the intersection and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. She was taken to UMC where she later died.Investigators have not discovered a motive, saying this may be just a random act of violence.There were three other people in the car with Kirklin at the time of the shooting -- one woman and two men. Police have not said what kind of charges they will face.Kirklin faces charges of murder with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in a vehicle, discharging a firearm at a vehicle and felony child endangerment.FOX5 News at 5 and 5:30 will have reaction from Gonzalez's family, including her 15-year-old son, who called police from the car after his mother was shot.
