UPDATED: 11:24 am PDT March 31, 2008

A woman was killed after police said she was shot in her car at an intersection.

At about 8:20 p.m. on Friday, Metro police received a 911 call reporting a female was shot in her vehicle at East Charleston Boulevard and North Nellis Boulevard.

Officers responded and found a 39-year-old female inside of her vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to University Medical Center Trauma in critical condition.

At about 6 p.m. on Saturday, the female victim was pronounced dead. Her identity will be released by the coroner’s office after an autopsy and notification of next of kin.

An investigation revealed the victim and her two children, ages 11 and 15, were stopped at a red light on North Nellis Boulevard at East Charlesto Boulevard.

Police said a light-colored mid-90s Buick four-door sedan was also stopped next to the victims’ vehicle, waiting to turn onto East Charleston Boulevard. The Buick was occupied by two black males in the front, two black males in the rear, with a black female between the two males in the back, police said.

Investigators said one of the men in the Buick discharged a handgun, breaking out a passenger side window of the Buick, and the bullet stuck the victim.

Police said the Buick made an abrupt U-turn and was last seen traveling south on North Nellis Boulevard.

Officers said the victim’s vehicle rolled into the intersection, and struck a truck turning east on East Charleston Boulevard. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Witnesses described the Buick as having a large dent in the right rear passenger door.

Anyone who with information is asked to call 702-828-3521 or call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
