POSTED: 3:12 pm PDT March 13, 2008
UPDATED: 11:48 am PDT March 14, 2008

On Wednesday, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Las Vegas Metro Police Department communications received a 911 call from a woman, later identified as Rosemary Redman, who said her daughter was bleeding on the floor, and there was blood everywhere, and she can't get her to wake up. In the background, a male voice repeatedly says she is dead. When the operator asked Rosemary if her daughter was breathing, the male voice said several times, "You have to wake her up." Rosemary told the operator, "He won't let me near her." Hysterical, and at the request of the operator, Rosemary Redman then passed the phone to her husband, later identified as William Boyd Redman.

William told the operator his daughter was dead. When the operator asked how the girl died, William said it was the way Jehovah does things. William told the operator to call the police, and he would explain to them. He said, “Send somebody over. You … you guys have to see this, ya know, yourself, I guess.” When the operator told William the responding officers needed to know what they were coming into and asked him how his daughter died, William said, “With a knife. With, with a knife.” The operator asked how she died with a knife, and William said, “I fell on her with it.” William later told the operator the knife slipped. When the operator asked William if he thought she was dead, William said, “Yes. I believe so … I need an ambulance to find out.” William identified himself verbally as William B. Redman Jr.

Patrol officers were dispatched to the Road Runner RV park, with the first officers arriving at 11:57 a.m. The officers arrived at the fifth-wheel trailer to find William Redman sitting on the front steps of the trailer covered in blood with his arms extended out in front of his legs and his hands open, palms forward. Rosemary Redman was out near the street screaming at William, “What did you do to my baby?”

William Redman was placed in handcuffs and left in the custody of an officer, while two other officers entered the trailer to find 12-year-old Gloria Ross Redman lying face down near the kitchen in a large pool of blood. Police checked for signs of life and found none. An officer was able to determine Gloria’s throat had been cut and advised dispatch. There was a serrated steak knife near or in Gloria’s right hand, which was extended forward above her head. Medical personnel arrived on the scene at 12:02 p.m. and confirmed Gloria was dead. While checking for vital signs, police moved Gloria onto her side, and it was discovered there was a larger serrated knife lying on the floor under her chest. Paramedics found the left side of Gloria’s neck had a deep laceration.

William Redman told police she was dead and repeatedly said to make sure Gloria was not embalmed for three days. William also told police, “I saw the light. What a trip.” Police said the statements made by William Redman were not in response to any questions asked him.

A paramedic and an EMT were starting to treat William for lacerations to his right biceps, left forearm, both wrists and his neck, when the paramedic asked one of the officers if William was the one that did this, and William said, “Yeah, I did it. I’m the one that did it.” The paramedic said after William’s statement, he asked her if she believed in God, and he told her he had seen God. The EMT also told detectives she heard William admit he was the one who did it.

Rosemary Redman later told a detective she allowed her daughter Gloria to stay home from school, as she had not been feeling well since Monday. Rosemary said she left to go to Smith’s grocery store at about 11:00 a.m., leaving Gloria lying on the top bunk in the living room and her husband, William, watching a religious program on the television in the bedroom area at the front of the trailer. Rosemary said there was no indication there was anything wrong with either William or Gloria when she left the trailer. When Rosemary returned, she carried the groceries into the trailer and found Gloria lying face down on the floor near the kitchen with blood everywhere. She said William was lying next to Gloria’s right side with his left arm around her. Rosemary said William wouldn’t let her near Gloria, and it looked like she had a knife in or near her left hand. She said William kept telling her she wasn’t the one who had to wake Gloria and that she had to be dead for three days before she would wake up. Rosemary said she called 911, but she handed William the phone when the operator told her she couldn’t understand what she was saying. Rosemary left the trailer and went to the RV park office, where she contacted the manager.

Rosemary said the manager returned to the trailer to find William sitting near Gloria on the floor. The manager said she told William to get away from Gloria and to go sit on the bed. She later told him to go outside, and he complied. The manager said she checked Gloria for a pulse at her neck and right wrist, but found none. She also called 911, telling the operator she believed William killed Gloria. She told a detective she remembered William saying, “Don’t worry about it. We’ll have to wait three days and have the funeral.”

William Redman was transported via Medic West Ambulance to Sunrise Hospital for treatment of the above listed lacerations. While en Route to the hospital, a paramedic asked William how he received his injuries, and he told her he made the cuts to his right biceps, wrist and neck with a serrated steak knife. William underwent surgery to treat the lacerations and was admitted to the hospital for observation.

William Redman was booked in absentia at Sunrise Hospital for murder with a deadly weapon.
