LAS VEGAS -- A new ad campaign is reminding gamblers to tip their dealer. The campaign features area dealers, but there may be an underlying message.“As a dealer you pretty much never ask a patron for a tip, however, this is pretty much how we earn our living," said Caesars Palace dealer Martina Castle. The ads were designed by the Transport Workers Union to remind players to tip. They are already online, but soon, they will appear on monitors on the Las Vegas Strip."We’re going to target specific casinos, but we’re also planning to have our volunteers just walk freely up and down the Strip," said TWU spokesman Jaime Horwitz.More specifically the Wynn will be one of those casinos targeted, because the underlying message is that monitors are replacing picket signs."The Wynn organization decided to take our tips," said Wynn dealer Hunter Dhue.On Sept. 1 the Wynn started a policy requiring dealers to share their tips with supervisors.Dealers like Dhue have taken about a 10 percent pay cut, while his supervisors have gotten a 50 percent pay increase."Unfortunately, your bills don't go down. We've used up pretty much all our savings and live paycheck to paycheck," Hunter said. The union said the players in the Wynn deal will be heading back to the table soon. They hope to regain control of their tips.A spokesman has not yet returned a call about the ads being displayed in front of the Wynn property.
