LAS VEGAS -- Metro police released new information on the investigation into the ricin found in an Extended Stay America hotel at a news conference Friday night.Authorities said they found an anarchist-type book tabbed to the section about ricin in the man’s room where the poison was found. They also said they recovered several guns in his room. That man remained in critical condition at the hospital, where he was admitted for respiratory issues on Feb. 14.
It was one of the man’s relatives who found the poison, along with some castor beans, when he was cleaning out the man’s room. He turned it over to the authorities after trying to claim the man’s belongings.Police said they cleaned the man’s relative’s room at the Excaliber Hotel and Casino Friday evening, and it tested negative for ricin.Authorities said all of the ricin has been contained and that the ricin found was not part of a terrorist threat.Ricin can be deadly if ingested, inhaled or injected into the body. Authorities said that two-tenths of a milligram is enough to kill a person. It has been used in some cancer research, but it has also been used in assassinations and turned up in the homes of suspected terrorists.
