School District Releases Statement On Shooting

LAS VEGAS -- Clark County School District officials have released the following statement in response to Monday's shooting near Gibson Middle School:"The safety of students and staff is of the highest importance to the Clark County School District. The district is working with all local law enforcement agencies, who are increasing police presence in response to recent events. An intensified focus on sharing information from the schools will assist law enforcement in assessing potential threats and responding accordingly.Safety is a community-wide issue that requires the participation and cooperation of everyone. Keeping weapons out of the hands of children and ensuring that guns are not accessible are of paramount importance. Parents are encouraged to review safety procedures with their children while emphasizing the importance of personal responsibility for their actions.We would like to commend Las Vegas Metropolitan Police for their timely response to today’s incident near Robert O. Gibson Middle School. At this time, it appears there is no connection between this incident and others that have recently occurred in our community. We are asking residents to report any threats of violence or suspicious behavior to Metro (police) at 702-828-3111 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555."
