LAS VEGAS -- It's been about three weeks since a three-alarm fire caused it to close, but workers are prepared for the Monte Carlo Hotel-Casino's reopening Friday.Hotel employees are back at work, taking care of some of the internal odds and ends before the doors officially open.Although the casino floor and some of the hotel is reopening to the public, officials said a good portion of it will still be out of commission. Guests will only be allowed to stay up to the 14th floor. Some repairs are still be made on the upper floors.Over the past few days, employees have been back inside putting new linens on beds, polishing racks and getting other parts of the hotel into shape. Some of the floors need minor repairs like molding work, but the higher up floors need extensive work. In some cases, whole rooms need to be redesigned.
In total, the fire and the loss of business cost the hotel nearly $100 million. Employees were thanked at the rally for being patient during the tough time. The Monte Carlo's CEO said the fire and the way the workers and the company responded shows that a large company can still operate as a close knit family.
