LAS VEGAS -- Clark County firefighters were able to contain a three-alarm fire within four hours with no major injuries when the Monte Carlo went up in flames. County officials will be recognizing those crews for their outstanding response Tuesday."This event showed us again that we have the best firefighters in the world," Commission Chairman Rory Reid said. "Thanks to their rapid response, teamwork, training and creative tactics the fire was quickly contained and knocked down."Approximately 120 firefighters responded to the fire, including some from the cities of Henderson, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas. County officials said the first crews were on scene within three minutes of the first alarm.
The fire was primarily contained to a part of the façade on the 32-story building. County officials are requiring the damaged parts of the building be demolished or secured before allowing the hotel-casino to reopen for business.
