LAS VEGAS -- Even though construction crews have been working around the clock to remove the damage done by a three-alarm fire, Monte Carlo officials said it will not be open for the big game on Sunday.County building officials have mandated the charred façade must be removed before the hotel-casino can be reopened to the public. It was destroyed after a fast-burning fire consumed the top three floors of the Strip resort Friday. Work was delayed earlier this week by severe wind gusts, but crews have been able to make some repairs on Wednesday and Thursday.MGM Mirage officials, the Monte Carlo's parent company, are working to relocate all conventions, meeting and guests to sister properties throughout the week and into the weekend. They have hired contractors with large construction crews to make sure the repairs are completed as quickly as possible. Also until the hotel reopens, magician Lance Burton's performances have been canceled.
There have been two hot lines established for workers and guests who need additional information. Employees that have not been relocated to other casinos are asked to call 702-693-7005 daily to determine their work schedules. Those people who were scheduled to stay at the Monte Carlo this week are asked to call 888-395-0776.Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze, and company officials still have not released an estimate of damages.
