Henderson Woman Still Missing After NYE Party

Metro Joining Henderson Police To Canvass Her Neighborhood

A young Henderson woman is still missing after a New Year's Eve party.

Now, the Metro Missing Persons Unit is joining Henderson police to find Mariela Moreno.

There have been no leads. No one has heard from or seen Moreno since New Year's.

Her family has put up fliers, and it and police are hoping for a break in the case.

“She's my sister .... tearing ... sorry,” said Moreno’s sister, Monica Kongesrud.

Each day that goes by gets harder and harder for Kongesrud.

“We feel so bad, because we don't have any idea what happened with her,” Kongesrud said.

Moreno, 24, rang in the new year with some friends at Firefly restaurant.

According to police, her boyfriend dropped her off at home around 4 a.m. but never watched her go inside.

“My husband was waiting for her to come home, because my dog always barks whenever someone comes near the door. Even the neighbor's dog, they both bark at the same ... we know she didn't come home,” Kongesrud said.

Her sister said a friend noticed some tension between the couple that night, but they haven't been able to reach her boyfriend since.

When asked if they thought he had anything to do with Moreno’s disappearance, her sister responded, “At first we thought, but now we don't think so, but he does seem suspicious.”

Police haven't named any suspects, because technically, a crime hasn't been committed.

Moreno’s family said she had no reason to run away. All of her IDs, passport and clothes are still at home.

“We want her to come home. We love her. We miss her, and I hope she's OK. She's alive, I hope so,” Kongesrud said.

The Metro Missing Persons Unit is looking over the case and said it plans to canvass the neighborhood Friday in search of any clues about Moreno’s whereabouts.

Anyone with information on Moreno is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
