LAS VEGAS -- She has been suspended for six months, but Judge Elizabeth Halverson is planning a new campaign for her old job.Halverson filed for re-election Thursday at the Clark County District Court. Since her suspension, she contends that some of her former employees were targeting her to get her removed from the bench. The Judicial Discipline Commission said Halverson mistreated her staff members, hiring her own security guards, sleeping on the bench and improperly meeting with jurors on a case she was working. The group also recently just filed a 14-count complaint against Halverson detailing her misappropriations while on the bench.
While she admits to falling asleep once on the bench due to a diabetic condition, Halverson said she is being targeted unfairly due to her appearance and the people who elected her. She said she will continue to fight for those who put her on the bench.
