Local schools and universities are facing a multimillion-dollar cut to their budgets.

The state Board of Regents is holding a special meeting this morning at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, to discuss how to meet budget reductions ordered by Gov. Jim Gibbons.

University system officials are looking at across-the-board cuts of 4.5 percent, or more than $57 million.

Officials said that could cost the University of Nevada, Reno, almost $19 million and UNLV more than $18 million over the next two years.

Schools and universities have been given a bit of a reprieve -- the original plan called for an 8 percent cut.
