LAS VEGAS -- The newest mega-resort on the Strip has opened its casino doors in time for New Year's Eve. But The Palazzo won't be hosting guests in hotel suites for New Year's morning.Las Vegas Sands Corp. spokesman Ron Reese said the main casino and public spaces like the lobby and an atrium linking the $1.8 billion hotel with the adjacent Venetian resort opened about 7 p.m. Sunday night. But restaurants, stores and the 3,066 rooms in the 50-story tower are still getting last-minute work and inspections.Reese said it's all part of what managers are calling a "soft opening" to let employees work out last-minute details before a big grand opening planned for Jan. 17.One area of the hotel-casino was opened in time for the New Year -- the 40/40 club, owned by hip hop mogul, Jay-Z.
