CARSON CITY, Nev. -- Gov. Jim Gibbons plans to meet with the state's school superintendents Thursday to discuss the ramifications of budget cuts on education.Gibbons last week reversed his decision to exempt Nevada's school districts and public safety agencies from the cuts, saying the burden of the declining tax revenue was falling too heavily on services for the state's needy. He proposed an across-the-board 4.5 percent cut to state agencies that would reduce funding to the state's school districts by $96 million over the next two years.Clark County Superintendent Walter Rulffes is expected to attend. He will be holding a news conference Thursday afternoon to let parents and teachers know what Gibbons' expectations are and discuss what the budget cuts mean for Valley schools.
