LAS VEGAS -- One strip club downtown is getting a new neon sign, thanks to the city of Las Vegas.City council members approved the grant application of the Olympic Garden Topless Cabaret. Councilman Gary Reese, who represents the district, asked to postpone the vote until Wednesday because of his concerns over the sign.Company officials said the sign would feature a large video screen underneath the letters OG, with a woman smiling down on the Strip in the video display from the shoulders up. The club's owners claimed the staffers approved the design, but Reese argues the City Council has the final say.Under city redevelopment guidelines, qualified businesses can apply for public funding to help improve "curb appeal" in the downtown area. But the strip club's sign has caused some controversy in the area because other businesses around the "OG" said their applications for new signs have been turned down.
Owners of the strip club are fronting $83,000 toward the new sign. According to the company's application, the city will contribute $50,000.
