Simpson's Lawyers Question 3rd Witness

Riccio Completes Testimony

With half the second slated day for testimony finished, attorneys for O.J. Simpson are questioning the third witness of eight in the preliminary hearing.

Simpson, Clarence Stewart and Charles Ehrlich are facing more than 10 felony charges in connection to an armed robbery attempt at the Palace Station Hotel-Casino in September. Three other co-defendants -- Michael McClinton, Walter Alexander and Charles Cashmore -- have accepted plea deals and have been found guilty of lesser charges.

Currently, lawyers are questioning one of the security officers who were working the night of the alleged armed robbery.

Attorneys finished cross-examining Tom Riccio earlier Friday morning. Riccio testified that he informed the authorities about the planned "sting" operation he arranged with Simpson, but that the police did not seem interested.

According to his testimony, sports memorabilia dealer Al Beardsley told Riccio that the Simpson goods were stolen. He said that they were trying to sell the goods and that spurred him to set up the meeting with Simpson.

Riccio said that during the alleged robbery, he had a key and allowed Simpson and his accomplices into the room. Once inside, he said that he only saw one gun and Simpson was not carrying it.

When questioned about the audiotapes he recorded, Riccio said that since he has a previous arrest record, he recorded the conversation to ensure authorities he did not play a role in the theft of the goods that Beardsley was attempting to sell.

Since attorneys are only on their third witness, court officials said this may go into Saturday, or it could be postponed until next week. There are still five other people to be cross-examined, including the three co-defendants who accepted plea deals.
