Police are investigating two plane crashes within a few hours of one another.

The first happened shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday. According to aviation officials, a plane crashed on top of Mount Potosi. The pilot radioed into McCarran Airport around 7 p.m. with mechanical problems. Shortly after, the plane fell off the radar.

The plane was later located about 2,000 feet from the mountain, but officials said conditions were too bad to send crews to the scene Thursday night. Officials said they are not expecting to find any survivors.

About an hour after the Mount Potosi crash, officials said two hikers approached a vehicle saying their plane crashed.

The Nevada Highway Patrol confirmed that their craft crash-landed near Las Vegas Boulevard.
