LAS VEGAS -- Until the Clark County District Court decides if suspended judge Elizabeth Halverson is fit for the position, she will not be allowed on the bench. That's according to a ruling from the state Supreme Court Thursday. In the ruling, the court decided that Halverson's conduct "posed a substantial threat of serious harm to the public and to the administration of justice."Halverson was elected last year. Court officials suspended her on July 25. They said their office had received several complaints on her actions, including that she mistreated staff members at the Las Vegas courthouse, she hired her own security guards, she slept during hearings and she improperly met with jurors impaneled to decide cases before her.Halverson has maintained her innocence, saying that the court officials who filed the complaints were "out to get her."
The officials who filed the complaints include her former assistant Irene Spoor. Spoor's attorney said her client will not speak until the hearing. There has been no official word as to when the hearing will take place.
