Legendary casino pioneer Jackie Gaughan is one year older. The owner of the El Cortez enjoyed champagne and cake to mark his 87th birthday Wednesday.

Gaughan started his life in Vegas in the Air Force in the 1950s and never left. Nearly 50 years later, he's still going strong.

"Eighty-seven and strong," said Tony Guroesky, a marketing executive for the El Cortez, said. "He plays poker every day, he goes to most of our meetings -- he conducts some of them. He's just a part of the El Cortez just like he always was."

The El Cortez is currently undergoing $20 million in renovations. Visitors can often catch Gaughan there, playing at a poker table.
