LAS VEGAS -- While one veterans group fights for a school name, another is fighting to create a lounge at McCarran Airport.Representatives from the American Legion Post 8 will address the Clark County Commission Tuesday to discuss a lounge for members of the armed forces traveling through the airport.Lounges or "canteens" are provided at 25 major airports in the United States, but McCarran -- the fifth busiest airport in the nation -- has yet to provide this service. In 2006, the county pledged $750,000 to establish an Armed Forces Lounge at McCarran, but the United Service Organization refused to recognize Las Vegas as a city in need of such a facility. Now, the Las Vegas branch of the American Legion has picked up the ball and agreed to run the facility in concert with other veteran's organizations in the city. They will ask county commissioners Tuesday to reaffirm their commitment, and allow the American Legion to proceed in lieu of the USO.
