LAS VEGAS -- Workers and community leaders plan to remember the longest strike in the Culinary Union's history.On Friday, members of the Culinary Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165 will be joined by community, business, and labor leaders in a ceremony to remember the 16th anniversary of the Frontier Strike.The walkout was the longest successful hotel strike in U.S. history. Workers from five unions at the Frontier Hotel-Casino were on strike for six years, four months, and 10 days. The historic strike saw all 550 workers respect the picket line for the entirety of the strike."The Frontier Strike was a key moment in our Union's history," said Geoconda Arguello-Kline, president of the Culinary Union. "It showed us all what unity and perseverance are. When the Frontier closed earlier this summer, it was the end of an era of history that we're proud to honor."The Frontier Hotel- Casino closed its doors in July of this year to make room for a new development. The strike at the Frontier began on Sept. 21, 1991, and ended on Jan. 31, 1998.
