LAS VEGAS -- Even though "The Juice" has left town, local officials acknowledge that if O.J. Simpson is taken to trial, we are just experiencing the calm before the storm. Experts said that should Simpson be prosecuted, the media presence alone could bring millions into the city, and local businesses are already anticipating the next wave of of the Simpson storm."It's been really over the top," said Bucky Buchanan with the Courthouse Bar and Grill. "The other day, I was seated here for lunch. I had to do eight interviews just because I was in there and I was available."Interviews and parking spots were in high demand. Media crews stayed staked around the courthouse, waiting for the newest information, and incurring the $20 fine per day for illegal parking."You have to contribute," satellite truck operator Richard Parks said. "We recognize that we're here, we're an inconvenience for the city. Although we bring a lot of publicity, we're taking up two parking spaces. They're treating us half decent."Mayor Oscar Goodman compares the media fanfare to a major Hollywood production."It's almost like having a movie being made in town," Goodman said. "They come in, shoot a little, have stars and then leave. I can't tell you what the economic impact is, but people like to be around celebrities."Local rental companies said the national media has already started booking equipment for Simpson's status check on Oct. 22.
