LAS VEGAS -- A Nevada license plate is stirring up a lot of controversy. The plate reads "X-stacy" -- pronounced ecstasy, like the drug Ecstacy. The Department of Motor Vehicles has pulled the plate from the streets and now the owner, Stacy Moore, is fighting to get it back.Residents have called to complain about the implications and have requested the plate be removed from the car. Moore is now appealing the department's decision."It refers to a street drug and that is clearly prohibited by the laws and regulations on license plate numbering," said Kevin Malone with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles. "The law doesn't allow for any grandfathering. Moreover, people driving down the street who read that license plate don't know her name is Stacy, and they don't know she's had that plate for all these years. When you see the plate, you'll naturally associate it with the drug."Moore said she's had the plate for 19 years. When she applied for it, another woman had "Stacy," so Moore said "X-Stacy," never believing it would one day become an issue.Officials with the DMV said it only takes one compliant to have a personalized plate pulled from a vehicle, and that situations like these happen a few times a year.Moore's case now goes to the District Court for judicial review.
