LAS VEGAS -- A local veterans group is upset over the name of Valley school. They made their case to the Clark County School Board in a meeting Monday night, but the board decided to side with the students. The group petitioned the board to name forthcoming the high school at Levy Lane and Torrey Pines Drive after U.S. veterans."They said they couldn't do it because of policy," said Phil Randazzo with defendingfreedom.net. "It's a big song and dance up there."The meeting got emotional when a number of veterans and family members of fallen soldiers wanted something to honor those who fought and died for this country. But the board didn't want to take the decision making out of the students' hands, leaving the name of the school Desert Oasis High.
The new school's proposed name will go before the Clark County Board of Trustees for a final vote.
