LAS VEGAS -- City officials want to warn commuters that a street closure will reroute their evening drive Friday.

Starting at 3 p.m., Fremont Street will be closed between Las Vegas Boulevard and Seventh Street. The city is closing the thoroughfare to prepare for the inaugural celebration of the Fremont Streetscape Improvement project.

To help with congestion, officials are recommending drivers use Carson and Ogden avenues as alternate routes around the closure.

Officials said Fremont Street will be reopened to traffic by 11 p.m. Friday.
