LAS VEGAS -- According to court transcripts, a bailiff in says District Judge Elizabeth Halverson regularly fell asleep in court. The transcripts were released Wednesday from a hearing before the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline. Testimony at the hearing led the commission to suspend Halverson while it investigates allegations of wrongdoing. The suspension took effect last month. The commission says it took the action because it found Halverson inexperienced in criminal law and ruled that she used poor judgment. The bailiff told the commission the judge fell asleep every day on the bench.
In previous interviews, Halverson said she's being unfairly targeted because of her size. She did admit to falling asleep once on the bench, but attributes it to her medical conditions.Halverson's suspension does not stop her from collecting her annual salary of $130,000.
