Police: Human-Trafficking Charges Still A Possibility

Police said two men, accused of participating in a prostitution ring, may eventually face human trafficking charges.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that of the eight people arrested in connection with the prostitution ring, Ping Sheng Chang has pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted pandering and John Gregory Keyes pleaded guilty to a felony charge of living from the earnings of a prostitute.

Police said that, at this time, charges have not been filed against the other six people who were arrested.

Authorities said that trafficking-related charges could eventually be filed against those that were arrested, including Chang and Keyes.

"Our investigation still isn't complete," said Lt. Dave Logue with the Las Vegas police.

The charges stem from an April 21 arrest of eight people after an investigation into a prostitution ring with ties to Asia. Police said at least 25 women were involved in nine neighborhood brothels.

Local FBI and police have different statements about the women in relation to human trafficking, which is why no trafficking charges have been filed at this time.

Keyes will be sentenced on Sept. 5.

A judge has yet to decide if Chang's charges will constitute a felony. If it is a felony charge, Chang could face one to four years in prison. If the judge rules it a gross misdemeanor, Chang could face up to one year in jail.
