School District Fills 700 Positions
Official: New Program Brings In High-Quality Teachers

LAS VEGAS -- Officials with the Clark County School District said they have filled about 700 teaching positions over the summer, leaving about 500 open.Representatives said they have received several complaints from students, parents and current teachers about the need for more instructors, but they feel their current recruiting program will be effective.Bryon Green, with the Clark County School District Recruitment Office, said the county has benefited from massive teacher layoffs around country."We've built a pool that site administrators are able to hire teachers from," said Green. "We are going to continue to do that until the school starts."
Green said they have the transcripts, background checks and references of all recently hired teachers."We are going to hire high-quality teachers until classroom positions are filled," said Green.Representatives with the Clark County School District said there's still a need for more Special Education, Math, and Science teachers.Officials from the school district said the recruiters are going to Buffalo, N.Y., Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland in this week to hopefully hire teachers that have been laid off.
