RENO, Nev. -- Leaders from the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada, the Nevada Immigrant Coalition and other leaders from faith organizations and businesses delivered a juicy message on the steps of the state federal building Thursday. To demonstrate their appreciation for the leadership of Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., in trying to pass just and fair immigration reform, PLAN leaders delivered baskets of fruit to his offices in Reno and Las Vegas. The same group sent Sen. John Ensign ,R-Nev. -- who voted to do nothing about immigration reform -- boxes of lemons to his offices."Senator Reid and others fought hard for comprehensive immigration reform to secure the border, reunite families, and protect workers,” said Bob Fulkerson, PLAN executive director. “The failure of this bill, in large part due to the efforts of Senator Ensign, has dire consequences for human beings in our country: more exploitation at the workplace, more raids and deportation, more deaths at the border, and more hate and violence.”
Fulkerson also said PLAN will continue to work for the legalization of the 12 million undocumented workers living in the United States.
