Out-The-Door Breakfast Ideas
Healthy Breakfast Jump-Starts Your Day
Between uniforms, supply check-lists and first day of school nerves, breakfast may be the last thing on your morning to-do list next week. But a healthy breakfast refuels your body and jump-starts your day.It may be even more critical for children than adults. According to the American Dietetic Association, children who eat breakfast are more likely to have better concentration, problem-solving skills and eye-hand coordination. They may also be more alert, creative and less likely to miss days of school.Don't overlook this important meal. Because time is usually of the essence, here are five Out-the-Door Breakfast Ideas:
No Spill Classic: Mix cereal with yogurt and sliced banana for a grab-and-go favorite without the worry of a mess in the car. Brian’s Breakfast Sandwich: Toast two wholegrain waffles, top with a slice of cheese and a slice of ham or Canadian bacon. Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie: Vanilla yogurt, chocolate milk (ice cubes if you’re really fancy), 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. Fruit and Yogurt Parfait: Can be prepared the night before. Take yogurt, layer with fresh or frozen berries, sprinkle nuts on just before running out the door. Bonnie’s Favorite Breakfast: Leftover pizza – Early in the week, bake off a frozen cheese pizza topped with favorite veggies, then package into single serving zip top bags and resist the temptation to eat them for snacks or dinner. To round out each meal, serve milk in single-serve containers or 100% real fruit juice.A special note to moms: Think you're saving calories by skipping breakfast? Chances are you'll be ravenous by lunchtime, which may lead you to eat more. Or your hunger at midmorning may tempt you to indulge in a high-fat treat that someone brought to the office.
