Rays OF Upton Undergoes Shoulder Surgery

St. Petersburg, FL -- (Sports Network) - Tampa Bay Rays center fielder B.J. Upton underwent a procedure Tuesday to repair a labrum in his left shoulder.The surgery to his non-throwing shoulder was done by renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews. In 2008, Upton batted .273 with nine homers, 67 RBI and 44 stolen bases. In the playoffs the 24-year old was sensational, batting .288 with seven homers and 16 RBI in 16 games, as the upstart Rays lost the World Series in five games to the Philadelphia Phillies. Team vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said in a story on MLB.com that he expects Upton to be ready for Spring Training. In parts of four seasons, all with Tampa Bay, Upton has a .277 batting average with 38 homers and 171 RBI in 369 games.
