MLB Suspends Marlins P Owens 50 Games

POSTED: 3:26 pm PST November 11, 2008

(Sports Network) - Major League Baseball has suspended Florida Marlins pitcher Henry Owens 50 games for testing positive for performance- enhancing drugs.

Owens, 29, has not pitched in the majors since June 2007 because of trouble with his right shoulder. The right-hander was 2-0 with four saves and a 1.96 earned run average in 22 appearances in 2007 before heading to the disabled list in June.

"We are disappointed that Henry Owens received a positive test, and fully endorse the discipline outlined in the MLB policy," said Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest. "We will continue to work with and educate our players to help prevent any further violations."

Owens is currently with Triple-A Albuquerque. His suspension will be effective at the start of the 2009 regular season.
