Nationals Name Riggleman Bench Coach

POSTED: 12:33 pm PDT October 24, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals named Jim Riggleman to their 2009 coaching staff on Friday.

Riggleman, who will serve as bench coach, took over the Seattle Mariners' managerial position on an interim basis in June after the firing of John McLaren. Riggleman led the lowly Mariners to a 36-54 record in his short stint as manager.

The 55-year-old has also managed the San Diego Padres (1992-94) and the Chicago Cubs (1995-200).

Washington also named Marquis Grissom (first base), Pat Listach (third base), Rick Eckstein (hitting) and Randy Knorr (bullpen) to the 2009 coaching staff.
