Arizona Gets Heilman From Cubs

POSTED: 2:18 pm PST November 19, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday acquired veteran right-handed pitcher Aaron Heilman from the Chicago Cubs for a pair of minor leaguers.

"Aaron has been a successful, durable reliever who will add experience and stability to our bullpen," said Arizona general manager Josh Byrnes.

The 31-year-old Heilman went 4-4 with one save to go along with a 4.11 earned run average in 70 appearances out of Chicago's bullpen last season. In 375 career games -- 25 of those starts -- Heilman has compiled a 26-37 record with 10 saves and a 4.22 ERA over parts of seven big-league seasons with the Mets and Cubs.

In return for Heilman, the D-Backs parted ways with left-hander Scott Maine and infielder Ryne White.

The 24-year-old southpaw was Arizona's sixth-round pick in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. He split time with Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno last season and went a combined 4-5 with seven saves and a 2.90 ERA in 48 relief outings.

White, 23, was a fourth-round pick in the 2008 draft by Arizona and appeared in 116 games with Single-A Visalia in 2009, hitting .266 with six home runs and 52 runs batted in.
