Pavano, Putz File For Free Agency

POSTED: 2:45 pm PST November 7, 2009

(Sports Network) - Pitchers Carl Pavano and J.J. Putz were the lone players to file for free agency on Saturday, bringing to date 120 players who have filed since the World Series came to a conclusion.

Putz, who missed most of the season due to right elbow surgery, had the option on his contract declined by the Mets Friday. He was due to make $9.1 million in 2010, but instead the Mets bought out his deal for $1 million. He was 1-4 with two saves and a 5.22 ERA over 19 games in his first season with the Mets.

Pavano compiled a 14-12 mark with a 5.10 ERA over 33 games playing for Cleveland and Minnesota in 2009. He was traded from the Indians to the Twins in August.
