Baltimore Hitting Coach Suspended Game; O's Make Roster Moves

POSTED: 1:34 pm PDT September 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - Major League Baseball suspended Baltimore Orioles hitting coach Terry Crowley one game for inappropriate actions in a September 3 game against Red Sox.

Crowley will sit out Friday's contest against the Oakland Athletics.

Meanwhile, the Orioles added to their roster Friday by acquiring pitcher Brian Bass from the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named later or cash considerations, and selected Bass' contract from Triple-A Norfolk.

Bass was 3-4 with a 4.87 earned run average in 44 games for the Twins this year.

Additionally, the club recalled infielder Brandon Fahey and selected the contracts of catcher Omir Santos and pitcher Alfredo Simon from Norfolk.

To make room on the roster, Baltimore released pitcher Fernando Cabrera, designated infielder Eider Torres for assignment and transferred pitcher Chris Ray from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.
