Reds Resume Set With Giants

(Sports Network) - Right-hander Ramon Ramirez makes his major-league debut for Cincinnati tonight, when the Reds play the San Francisco Giants in the middle test of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park.

The Reds, who broke out for 11 runs in the opener against the Giants on Friday, called up the youngster after he made 19 appearances this season at Triple-A Louisville. Ramirez was 4-5 overall with a 3.08 earned run average in 15 starts and four relief appearances for the Bats.

Over his last five starts, he recorded a 1.38 ERA.

For the Giants, righty Kevin Correia tries for a second straight win after a four-start drought.

The San Diego native, who turned 28 on Sunday, defeated his hometown Padres, 7-4, on his birthday after allowing seven hits and three runs in six innings.

Previously, he went four outings without a win, surrendering 23 hits and nine earned runs in 23 2/3 innings over that stretch.

Correia faced the Reds once this season in relief, allowing a hit, a walk and a run while recording one out in Cincinnati's 10-9 win on April 26.

He is 3-1 lifetime against the Reds in nine appearances -- four starts -- with a 4.56 ERA in 23 2/3 innings.

On Friday, Chris Dickerson and Edwin Encarnacion combined to drive in nine runs to lead the Reds to an 11-7 victory.

Dickerson finished the game 3-for-5 with a homer, three runs scored and four RBI, while Encarnacion had a grand slam and five RBI, as the Reds improved to just 8-18 in August.

Edinson Volquez (16-5) allowed six runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings while striking out six and walking three to earn the win.

Barry Zito (8-16) was hammered for eight runs -- seven earned -- and seven hits in only 3 1/3 innings of work. He struck out two and walked two, and in two starts against Cincinnati this season the lefty has given up 16 runs -- 15 earned -- in 6 1/3 innings.

Eugenio Velez went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Emmanuel Burriss hit 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in defeat, only the Giants' third in nine tries.

The Giants took two of three from the Reds back from April 25-27.
