Indians Try To Quickly Get Back On Track Versus Mariners

(Sports Network) - Now that their longest winning streak in six years is over, the Cleveland Indians will try to bounce back tonight in the continuation of a three-game series versus the Seattle Mariners at Progressive Field.

The Indians had a 10-game winning streak come to a halt in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Mariners in the series opener. Starter Jeremy Sowers gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings to absorb the loss.

Shin-Soo Choo finished 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and one RBI. Indians catcher Victor Martinez was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Friday, and started at first base, going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Cleveland is 0-1 on a six-game homestand and 36-30 at home this season.

Anthony Reyes will take the mound for the Tribe on Saturday, and will make his fifth start with the club since being acquired from St. Louis. Reyes is 2-1 with a 2.22 earned run average in four starts with Cleveland and is fresh off a solid outing on August 24 at Texas.

The straight-brimmed righty limited the Rangers to a run and four hits in seven innings of work for the no-decision in a 4-3 victory. Reyes has never faced the Mariners.

Seattle will resume its six-game road trip on Saturday and has won four of its last five games. Last night's starter, Felix Hernandez, tossed six solid innings for the victory, yielding just two runs on six hits and four walks, while striking out seven batters. J.J. Putz tossed a perfect ninth to pick up his 10th save of the season.

Raul Ibanez homered and drove in all of Seattle's runs. Ibanez and Yuniesky Betancourt each finished 2-for-4 in the winning cause to lift the Mariners to a 23-42 road mark this season.

Mariners pitcher Jarrod Washburn will try to put the brakes on a five-start losing streak tonight. Washburn has a 6.75 ERA over that span and last pitched on August 23 versus Oakland. He was reached for three runs in six innings of a 5-1 loss, falling to 5-14 in 26 games (25 starts) this season.

The left-hander hasn't won since July 27 at Toronto and is 7-7 with a 4.84 earned run average in 18 career starts against Cleveland. Washburn lost to the Indians on April 30 this season, permitting six runs, five of which were earned, in 4 1/3 innings of an 8-3 setback.

Cleveland leads the 2008 season series with Seattle by a 4-3 count, and is 7-5 over the previous 12 matchups with the Mariners.
