POSTED: 6:32 pm PDT August 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Houston Astros signed outfielder Darin Erstad to a one-year, $1.75-million contract extension and right-handed pitcher Brian Moehler to a one-year, $2.3-million contract extension on Friday.

The one-year extensions for both players are for the 2009 season, and both have additional bonuses. Moehler's deal includes an option for the 2010 season.

"Both Darin Erstad and Brian Moehler are excellent veteran leaders who have performed very well for our ballclub this season," said general manager Ed Wade. "We are excited to have both of them back for the 2009 season, as they have played a significant role in our team's improvement in 2008 and will be strong contributors to our future success."

Erstad, 34, is batting .293 with three home runs and 26 runs batted in through 118 games for the Astros.

A 13-year veteran, Erstad is a career .285 hitter with 121 home runs, 683 RBI, 307 doubles, and 179 stolen bases in 1,525 career games. He has also donned the uniforms of the White Sox and the Angels and is the only player in MLB to win a Gold Glove Award as both an outfielder (2000, 2002) and an infielder (first base, 2004).

Moehler, 36, is 9-5 with a 3.99 earned-run average in 25 games (20 starts) this season.

In 12 seasons in the majors, Moehler has appeared in 277 games -- 209 starts -- and the righty is 73-88 with a 4.68 ERA. He has also played for Detroit, Cincinnati and Florida.
